Mariupol Environmental Initiative

Objective: to develop action program in the field of environment preservation for Mariupol; one of the components of the program is grant-giving to non-governmental organizations, executive power local bodies and educational institutions in order to perform projects within this initiative.
Program Constituents
During the first year of the Project implementation Mariupol citizens have worked out a local environment action plan in cooperation with local authorities and under support of the Project team headed by Counterpart International, Inc.
During the second year the Program went on giving assistance to Mariupol in its plan-realization activity. It included environmental situation improvement by means of jointly elaborated technical support and trainings; organization capacity strengthening; management skills and experience distribution; grant fund building to finance local economical priority environment initiatives.
During the third year the Program was focused on wastes decreasing initiatives corresponding to objectives and measures mentioned in the local action plan. These initiatives included industry participation by means of trainings and pilot projects; the Sea of Azov water quality increasing regional initiative; environmental awareness rising by means of grant program.
During the fourth year of implementation the attention of the Program was firstly paid to the seashore of Azov improvement, and to the problem of low environmental awareness level among population. |
